For years, most of us (including me) were taught to believe that health = a smaller number on the scale.
Lower is better.Faster is better.Less is success.
But here’s the truth:
The scale tells you almost nothing about how healthy, strong, energized, or resilient you truly are.
You can lose weight and still feel exhausted.
You can plateau on the scale and be getting stronger.
You can weigh the same and look, feel, and function completely differently.
That’s because real health lives in your body composition, not in your bathroom scale.
Let’s talk about what that really means.

What Is Body Composition — Really?
Body composition looks at what your body is made of, not just how much it weighs.
It measures:
Fat mass
Lean mass (muscle, organs, water)
Bone density
In other words:It shows what your weight is made of.
Two women can be the same height and weigh exactly the same…Yet one may be strong, energized, and metabolically resilient…While the other feels tired, inflamed, and stuck.

There are several ways to understand what’s happening inside your body:
✔ Body Composition Scales (BIA) I personally recommend the RENPHO scale for my clients which I use myself weekly.
Many smart scales use gentle bioelectrical signals to estimate:
Body fat
Muscle mass
Water
Visceral fat
They’re not perfect — but they’re excellent for tracking trends over time.
✔ DEXA Scan
This is the gold standard. It shows fat, lean tissue, and bone density with high accuracy.
✔ Tape Measurements
Waist, hips, arms, thighs — simple, powerful, and often more meaningful than weight.
✔ Skinfold Testing
Uses calipers to estimate body fat at specific sites.
Each method tells part of the story.
Together, they tell the truth.
